House managers & housekeepers
A house manager takes the household off your desk: staff supervision, shopping and budgets, maintenance, inventories, and a house that stays in order while you are travelling.
The difference
Families often ask for one and mean the other, then end up disappointed. The distinction is responsibility, not effort.
Does the work: cleaning, laundry, ironing, tidying, basic cooking. Follows a routine you set. Typically KES 18,047 – 25,000 a month.
Owns the outcome: sets the routine, supervises the housekeeper, gardener and driver, holds the shopping money, deals with the plumber, keeps the inventory. Typically KES 25,000 – 45,000 a month.
Not sure which you need? Answer the questions in the request form and we will tell you honestly — including when a housekeeper will do and you would be overpaying for a manager.
Scope of work
What we check
Which is why this role gets the deepest file we build.
Sighted and copied by us in our office, not accepted second-hand.
The Certificate of Good Conduct is applied for and collected by Frimak, never by the candidate.
We ask specifically about money handling and about how they left. Written letters are not treated as evidence.
How many people they managed, in what kind of home, and for how long. Verified with the referee, not just the CV.
A practical check on shopping lists, change, receipts and a simple household float.
Duties, hours, salary, leave, notice and money-handling rules, agreed in writing before day one.
Questions
Rarely well. Running the house and watching a small child both demand full attention, and the child usually loses. If your budget only stretches to one person, be clear with yourself about which job actually matters more, and we will hire for that.
Many households do, and it works when the rules are written down: a fixed float, receipts for everything, and a weekly reconciliation. We include that clause in the contract as standard, and we tell the candidate at interview that it will be enforced.
That is a normal brief and we place for it. Say so in the request form — we will ask how many staff, what they do, and whether they know a manager is being brought in, because that last one determines how the first month goes.
Yes, as an optional monthly retainer covering contracts, payslips, NSSF, SHIF and leave tracking — for all your household staff, not only the ones we placed. See how it works →
Size of house, staff already in place, and what you want taken off your plate.
